Our team performs wisdom teeth extractions to help our patients keep their oral health on track. We also offer simple, single tooth extractions.

As your trusted dentists, we will partner with you to achieve your smile goals. Our skilled dental team performs gentle wisdom tooth extractions to provide relief and keep your smile healthy. If you need to have a tooth pulled, you can trust Smile Perfection Dental & Braces of !

Why Remove Wisdom Teeth?

The third molars or “wisdom teeth” are the very last molars on the top and bottom of your mouth. Most people have all four, but others only have a few. They are the last set of molars to come through. The position they erupt in will determine whether or not you have to have them removed.

If a wisdom tooth doesn’t have room to grow, it will become impacted, resulting in pain, infection or other dental problems. In this case, you will need to have the teeth pulled. Wisdom tooth extraction may be performed by a dentist or an oral surgeon.

To prevent potential future problems, dentists and oral surgeons recommend wisdom tooth extraction even if impacted teeth aren’t presently causing oral health concerns.

Do I Need to Have My Wisdom Teeth Removed?

If not extracted, wisdom teeth can cause discomfort and pain, as well as other problems in the future, like infections in the teeth or gums. A quick visit to your dentists and digital X-rays will indicate to our team the position your wisdom teeth are going to erupt. This will also help us determine if you will need to have the teeth removed.

The extraction itself typically requires only one visit, and it can range from a quick extraction to a more complicated surgical extraction. Our team will discuss your condition and help you completely understand your care needs prior to the procedure.

What Can I Expect After My Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

Pain, discomfort and swelling occur during the first few days, and it is normal to experience slight bleeding. You need to be very careful to take care of yourself after the extraction as not to dislodge the blood clot. This will cause further bleeding. Little to no exercise is recommended after this procedure.

You should not eat any solids or hot beverages during the first couple of days – however, you can make the recovery time a bit easier in order to reduce the pain and swelling. Painkillers can help manage the pain better and also ice not only soothes your mouth but also helps reduce the discomfort.

Our dentist can recommend you eat soft foods such as yogurt, smoothies, apple sauce and also ice-cream and Jell-O are great as they are soft and don’t need chewing. The average recovery time can take up to three to four days, up to a week. However, it depends on how the teeth were positioned and the degree of invasive treatment.
